We want to introduce you to Kusuma and Kumuda.
They are true blue Bangaloreans, i.e., they lived in the city before its name was changed to Bengaluru. But more importantly, they are identical twins, giving them a unique sense of self and identity. Like two halves of one soul, or as Kusuma describes their relationship, “a single soul with two bodies,” they did everything together growing up, even getting married. Here’s their story as told to us by Kusuma, one of the sisters.
What was it like growing up as twins?
It was a unique experience. Imagine being two different people but with the same thought process, similar talents, and desires… we wore the same kind of clothes, we studied together, we played together. Every decision we’ve ever made, we talked it over and made it together. I don’t remember doing anything alone growing up. We were always together.
Was there any sibling rivalry growing up, considering how close you were?
Not really. We were always in perfect harmony. We encouraged each other to grow and become successful. Both of us were bright students in school. And we were both passionate about music and dance. I excelled as a guitarist and Kumuda as a keyboardist. We made a lot of noise together growing up! We both studied the same thing, MSc (Physics), and got our Bachelor of Education degrees. We’re both Physics lecturers in different colleges.
That’s fascinating! Did you always want to get married together too?
Yes! Being twins, we didn’t think anyone else would understand our connection. It must be experienced to be appreciated. So, we were searching for twins to get married to… no other match would have suited us.
Tell us a little about your husbands and how you all met?
My husband’s name is Akshay. Kumuda’s husband’s name is Athishay. They are from Hassan in Karnataka, though they are both software engineers in Bangalore now. See, even they have that connection. Being part of a twin is an entirely different experience. And we all love it!
So, while we were searching for twins to marry, they also were searching for the same. The proposal came from their sister. She lived in the same area as we did and came to know about us. She talked to her twin brothers, and they decided to meet us. This was our first proposal and the same for them. At our first meeting itself, we decided to get married. It was perfect. They say when you meet the person you are meant to spend the rest of your life with, you know. We knew. They were perfect for us.
You’ve said that they were your first proposal. What made you say ‘yes’ to them?
Our first meeting was on June 14th, 2019. There were other family members present at that time. We then decided to meet again, just the four of us. At that time, we talked about our thoughts and desires for our marriage, and they shared theirs too. My sister’s and my biggest concern was that they would stop us from working. We didn’t want that to happen after our wedding. We feel it is essential for women to be self-sufficient and not rely on their husbands or parents. We wanted that independence. Our husbands were very supportive of our hopes and dreams from the beginning. That’s what we liked about them from the start. Husbands and wives must understand and support each other’s aspirations. Only then are we indeed team players. We had experienced that between ourselves as twins. We wanted to have that same supporting relationship even with our respective spouses.
And they’ve kept their promises. To date, they haven’t told either of us what to do or what not to do. They’ve supported us and cheered us on to bigger and bolder dreams.
That sounds very sweet and promising. Tell us a little about your wedding?
Our wedding was on the 12th and 13th of May 2020. It was in the middle of the major lockdown. There was so much panic around that time. It was so difficult to organize it all, and it didn’t feel like too much of a celebration. We had printed over 1500 wedding invitations, but only 100 people could attend finally. We could not go and invite people in person. I missed having close friends and family members come and celebrate with us. We were also very conscious of spreading the virus, which was a big fear. Many ceremonies, including our photoshoot, were canceled. Everything that we had dreamed for ourselves for a wedding, what we finally had was just a fragment because of Corona.
Oh no, that’s so sad! We’ve heard many such stories from our customers. Let’s move on to happier memories. What made you choose Koskii for your wedding outfit?
Yes, Koskii’s bridal dresses are a pleasant memory for us. We were looking for the perfect wedding dress. Of course, we wanted two of the same design. We were looking for semi-stitched pink lehengas. We had a specific pink color in mind. We had heard that Koskii had a store in Jayanagar. Since that was close by, we decided to walk in and see what styles were available. We were shocked! There were so many options available for brides. All the dresses were gorgeous! We had to return to the store many times because we couldn’t make up our minds. We must have visited that Koskii store at least two or three times.
Why did you say “Yes” to that particular dress?
The staff at Koskii were so courteous and helpful. We felt very comfortable with them. My sister and I liked a particular lehenga, and the shopping assistant encouraged us to try it on, saying it would look good. It did! If we ‘liked’ the lehenga on the rack, we ‘LOVED’ it when we tried it. It was perfect! It was because of your staff that we found our dream wedding dress.
Would you recommend Koskii to other brides?
“Of course! Koskii is a good place for brides to find their dream wedding dresses. Thank you, Koskii, for making us look beautiful on our special day!”
